Lewes, Indian River and Rehoboth Beach firefighters responded to a house fire at 32999 Harts Road on Tuesday July 21 at approx. 11:49am.  Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the occupied residence. All occupants got out safely except a dog that was overcome by smoke and succumbed as firefighters and EMS personnel attempted resuscitation efforts. Moderate damage was done to the home as fire crews were on the scene for about 11/2 hours bringing the incident under control. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
