Vehicle Accident with Entrapment - Route 24 ITAO Station Three

On Thursday Oct. 14th, the Lewes Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported vehicle accident with subjects possibly trapped on Rt. 24 west of Lewes/Rehoboth Fire Station 3. Upon arrival of Sussex County EMS, they confirmed 2 vehicles with subjects trapped in both. Lewes Asst. Chief Walt Reynolds responding in his POV called for a Rescue Assist from the Rehoboth Beach and Indian River Fire Cos along with an additional Ambulance from Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad. Arriving on the scene A/C Reynolds assigned incoming units to extricate the two heavily trapped victims. Both extications took 30 to 45 minutes to complete with the patients being transported to PGH in Salisbury by MD Trooper 4. Rt. 24 was shutdown for approx. 3 hours while crews worked to clear the scene. DSP is investigating the cause of the accident.
